Regional Internet Service Expansion (RISE) Project

The RISE Project is an initiative by Firefly Fiber BroadbandSM, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Central Virginia Electric Cooperative (CVEC), to provide internet access to all underserved homes and businesses in 13 counties in Central Virginia. Projects to be completed by the end of 2025. Firefly offers gigabit-speed internet via fiber to the premise that is reliable and affordable.

CARES Act Project

Firefly Fiber BroadbandSM, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Central Virginia Electric Cooperative (CVEC), is working with counties to make use of the funds that are available for non-CVEC areas as a one-time opportunity to quickly expand broadband availability in response to COVID.

Note: Firefly will serve this area as the last mile internet service provider in partnership with Dominion Energy’s Middle Mile Project. The Firefly RISE project is designed to ensure every location in Nelson County has access to broadband connectivity.
